BREEZE Software

Calpuff

BREEZE CALPUFF is a multi-layer, multi-species, non-steady-state puff dispersion model, which can simulate the effects of time and space-varying meteorological conditions on pollutant transport, transformation, and removal. CALPUFF can use the three-dimensional meteorological fields developed by the CALMET model or single station winds in a format consistent with the meteorological files used to drive the Industrial Source Complex Short-term version 3 (ISCST3) steady-state Gaussian model.

The BREEZE easy-to-use visual desktop offers direct access to entering data, running the model, and generating graphics. The visual desktop offers the ability to edit and visualize model data as you create a project. BREEZE features CAD-like drawing tools that make it easy to edit, move, and delete sources, grids, discrete receptors, hills, and buildings. You can view model input data in 2-D, 3-D, or both. Intuitive form and table views of data also provide for easy data entry and customization of units. All model parameters are supplemented with complete online help, which provides definitions and acceptable ranges.

BREEZE makes it easy to create and execute projects and avoid costly data entry mistakes. You can easily import and use a bitmap image of an aerial photograph or a TerraServer map as a project base map using the Import Image tool. You can also import terrain elevations from various models including 7.5 minute and 1 degree United States Geologic Survey (USGS) Digital Elevation Models (DEMs).

BREEZE saves you time and money by minimizing duplicate data entry and data entry mistakes. Trinity Consultants' professional staff of modelers, meteorologists, and software engineers is available to assist you with your software.

BREEZE CALPUFF is based on the Earth Tech CALPUFF model.

When does CALPUFF Apply?

The CALPUFF model is used for regulatory permitting applications, particularly those involving long-range pollutant transport or complex terrain. CALPUFF is a non-steady state Lagrangian puff model that allows for refined representation of long-range phenomena such as visibility, regional haze, and acid deposition through the use of advanced meteorological data. CALPUFF generally uses three-dimensional meteorological fields developed by the CALMET model.

BREEZE CALPUFF Features

BREEZE CALPUFF BREEZE improves productivity by offering users the following advantages. The careful design of this air dispersion model enables modelers to streamline all aspects from setup to model execution to results analysis

Graphical Interface:

By adhering to Microsoft design standards, BREEZE's intuitive interface makes what was once complicated and disorganized, simple and easy to understand.

Display Views:

Four display windows allow you to visualize model data as you create a project. You can view model input data in 2-D (Map), 3-D, or both simultaneously. You can also view project data in an Explorer-like view and in the Reports View.

These views can be displayed simultaneously without having to launch separate applications. This allows the user to obtain the detailed information in the shortest amount of time. The user can navigate the views with various mouse movements.

A coordinate display shows the current coordinates of the mouse pointer over the Map View (2D) window.

Data Explorer View

The Data Explorer view displays the data window, which provides a means of viewing project data in one of two organizational styles:

  • Input Groups (a Technical data structure).
  • BREEZE Interface (a Windows Explorer-like fashion) - designed by CALPUFF models and is a significant improvement over the standard Input Groups option. Map View (2D)

The Map View allows you to view the modeling objects in your project file's modeling domain and features CAD-like functionality to edit and enter model input data.

3D View

This view provides the user a means of quality controlling model object (sources, buildings, receptor heights, etc.) the dimensions.

Reports View

Provides and organized display of model input and output files.

Rapid Scenario Development:

The toolbar containing the model object drawing tools provides an interactive means of adding model objects to the project within the 2D Map View.

Each type of model object can be edited within the model object input screen once it has been created. Model object input screens can be accessed through a variety of ways including the Input menu and the Map View.

Enhanced Project File Management:

BREEZE has introduced an improved file management system for CALMET and CALPUFF. This has been accomplished through a system of intelligent naming conventions throughout the CALPUFF modeling system. CALMET, CALPUFF, and their associated pre and post processors utilize a large number of unique input and output files during their setup and operation. In the past these files have been designated as *.dat, *.inp, and *.lst, creating confusion for the modeler and increasing the possibility of file overwriting.

Each critical file in the BREEZE CALPUFF system has been designated a unique file extension to allow for improved file management and productivity. To make file searches easier, file dialogs throughout the system allow filtering based on these naming conventions. In addition, the BREEZE CALPUFF system will automatically pre-name each output file according to its type and the current project name.

Table View:

In addition to the point-and-click method of entering model object data, BREEZE provides a spreadsheet like Table View for convenient data entry of individual or multiple records for model object data. The Table View is comprised of three main components:

  • A model object filter panel on the left side of the window. Selection of a model object type in this panel controls the display of model object parameters in the right panel.
  • A table entry panel for displaying and entering model object parameters
  • A tool bar that provides options to add and delete model objects.

If you have source or other model object information stored in a spreadsheet, you can easily copy and paste the information into the Table View.
