Engconsult Ltd. (JV with Geoconsult, Austria, Sambo Engineering, Korea, and Transproject Georgia) signed a detailed design contracts with Roads Department of the Republic of Georgia on February 10, 2010 for ADB LOAN 2560-GEO: Road Corridor Investment Project in Georgia in the amount of US$3,500,000.
The objective of the Project is to undertake detail design and construction drawings of the road based on the feasibility/preliminary design alignment (shown on the plan provided with the bid documents) to provide an access controlled two and four lane high class highway from Choloki Bridge to Chorokhi Bridge, with detail construction drawings and full BOQs and Contract Documentation suitable for international bidding.
Engconsult Ltd., Canada signed a technical assistance (TA) contracts with Asian Development Bank on February 3, 2010 for Preparing the CARREC Corridor II (Aktau Beineu Road) Project in Kazakhstan in the amount of US$514,500.
The objective of the TA is to (i) duly review the engineering design, technical standards, alignment, and procurement documentation, following ADB guidelines and policies; (ii) recommend sub-components to help distribute project benefits to the poor; and (iii) assist the EA with public consultations and socioeconomic surveys to ensure that local residents' needs are incorporated in the project design.
Engconsult Ltd., Canada signed a technical assistance (TA) contracts with Asian Development Bank on February 3, 2009 for Preparing the Ajara Bypass Roads Development Project in Georgia in the amount of US$580,000.
The objective of the Project is to undertake a feasibility study and prepare a preliminary design for the proposed Ajara Bypass Roads (57km). The project will comprise two bypass roads in the Ajara Autonomous Republic: (i) the Batumi bypass road, and (ii) the Choloki–Makhinjauri road (or the Kobuleti bypass road) to increase transit traffic, reduce transport costs and travel time, and improve road safety. The key components of the project are: (1) 52km road, (2) 20 bridges (two of them are 400m long each), (3) 1,300m riverbank protection; (5) 5 interchanges and overpasses, and (6) 820m tunnel.
Engconsult Ltd., Canada signed a detailed design contract with the Ministry of Public Works on March 1, 2008 for Preparing the Detailed Project Report for Bagrami-Khaki Jabbar-Hisarak-Sherzad-Jalalabad Road Project in Afghanistan in the amount of US$930,000.
The objective of the project is to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for Bagrami-Sherzad-Surkrod via Khakijabbar, a 2-lane 158km road. The DPR will also include the safeguard documents (Initial Environmental Examination and Resettlement Plan) in order to be eligible for donor fund for implementation.
Engconsult Ltd., Canada signed a technical assistance (TA) contracts with Asian Development Bank on April 18, 2007 for Preparing the Road Rehabilitation and Capacity Building Cluster Project in Afghanistan in the amount of US$1 million. The objective of the TA is to prepare a road rehabilitation of about 625km road including a tunnel of 2.7km. The specific project details are:
  • Kabul-Jalalabad Road: Capacity analysis and detailed design of 65 km of gravel road Bagrami-Surobi to national road standard; 71 km Surobi – Jalalabad road widening from two lanes to four (where possible), replace and repair of 19 bridges and 85 culverts; and realign 0.2 km road section.
  • Salang Pass: Capacity analysis and preliminary design of Salang Pass subproject, a 170 km road from Jabul Suraj to Phuli Khumri constitute a 2.7km tunnel, 40 bridges, and 77 culverts.
  • Ishkashim to China Border: Preliminary engineering design of 310km road in highly mountainous area with elevation ranges from 2,514 to 4,875m above mean sea level. This subproject has about 38 bridges and 136 culverts.
Engconsult Ltd., Canada signed a technical assistance (TA) project contract with Asian Development Bank on February 22, 2007 for Poverty Reduction and Renewable Energy Development Project in Afghanistan. The objective of the assignment is to provide the enabling environment for sustainable dissemination and use of renewable energy in rural areas by enabling the country to benefit from Kyoto protocol's trade in emission permits and credits.
Engconsult Ltd., has conducted a training program on air quality in Kabul for 22 officials of National Environmental Protection Agency, Government of Afghanistan under Kabul Air Quality Management Project, a technical assistance by the Asian Development Bank from July 10-13, 2006. The training program is based on USEPA APTI Course 422 Air Pollution Orientation. Most of the course participants expressed their gratitude to ADB and satisfaction to the quality of the training. They thanked Engconsult for the high quality training offered and expressed willingness to attend additional training programs organized by Engconsult.

Engconsult Ltd. is shortlisted to submit a proposal for the Chittagong Port Efficiency Improvement Project in Bangladesh. This is a project preparation technical assistance by the Asian Development Bank, to the Government of Bangladesh, March 2, 2006.
Engconsult Ltd., Canada and ECL Consultants Ltd., Bangladesh signed a US$710,000 technical assistance (TA) project contract with Asian Development Bank on January 12, 2006 for Small to Medium Sized Hydropower development Project in Afghanistan.

The objective of the TA is to assist Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) in undertaking feasibility studies on a cross section of small to medium-sized hydropower plants and prepare the analytical work required. The TA will have three main components: (i) preparation of a sector analysis; (ii) undertaking and ranking of prefeasibility and feasibility studies of selected subprojects; and (iii) diagnostic assessment and development of an institutional strengthening and capacity development plan for MEW and other relevant agencies. The TA will be implemented over 6 months, with 20.5 person-months international input and 25 person-months domestic input. Read more from our News Release.

Japan Railway Technical Services, Engconsult Ltd. and Nippon Koei signed a US$430,000 technical assistance (TA) project contract with Asian Development Bank on November 25, 2005 for ADB RETA-6251: Greater Mekong Area Rehabilitation of the Railway in Cambodia. The objectives of the project are: (i) to support integration of Cambodia into the regional railway network in the western GMS by providing railway access to Thailand; (ii) to increase the efficiency of transport services within Cambodia and to its neighbors by providing efficient alternative routes and modes of transport for Cambodia's import and export trade; (iii) to reduce the cost of road maintenance and traffic risks by transferring heavy and dangerous cargo to a safe and reliable railway system; and (iv) to pave the way for further subregional integration in the future by facilitating achievement of the Singapore-Kunming railway link. Engconsult Ltd., Canada signed a US$458,000 technical assistance (TA) project contract with Asian Development Bank on December 17, 2004 for Dushanbe-Kyrgyz Border Road Rehabilitation Project (Phase II) in Tajikistan. The TA will prepare a feasibility study and preliminary engineering design to rehabilitate the section of the road from Km 140 (between Nurobod and the Tavildara Junction) to Nimich (Km 217, the Tajikabad Junction), a total distance of approximately 77 km, and selected rural roads totaling about 100 km. Engconsult Ltd. is invited by the Asian Development Bank on September 13, 2004 to sign a contract in preparing the Feasibility Study of the Yevlax-Ganja Road Rehabilitation Project in Azerbaijan. The objective of the technical assistance project is to help the Government prepare the Yevlax-Ganja road rehabilitation project suitable for ADB financing. The Project aims to foster regional cooperation and sustainable economic growth in Azerbaijan by increasing the efficiency and safety of transport between Yevlax and Ganja on the east-west road corridor linking Baku to the Georgian border. Engconsult Ltd., Canada and Sofregaz, France signed a US$413,500 contract with Asian Development Bank on June 15, 2004 for Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Natural Gas Pipeline Project (Phase II) in Pakistan. The objective of the technical assistance project is to carry out investigations to estimate costs, feasibility, work over, new facilities, construction, and operation and maintenance for the Pakistan underground natural gas storage (UGS) based on depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs. Engconsult Limited is assisting Japan Transport Cooperation Association in preparaing a project in Clean Development Mechanism in Transport Sector: Opportunities and Challanges in Thailand. The goal of the project is to build Thailand's capacity to reduce greenhouse gases and promote involvement in the CDM in the transportation sector by implementing pilot studies. This project is mainly designed as a capacity-building and technology transfer exercise. The purpose is to assist stakeholders in the Thai transportation sector to identify and evaluate effective greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, and to build their institutional and technical capacity to take part in the CDM. Major activities of the project are:
  • Capacity building for Thai transport experts and government officials to identify, evaluate and facilitate CDM projects in the transportation sector.
  • Three in-depth Pilot studies (two technical and one policy-oriented) on potential CDM projects.
  • Engagement of stakeholders in the transportation sector in dialogue on the CDM.
  • Development and dissemination of recommendations on how to apply the CDM in Thai transportation sector.
Engconsult Ltd. organized a number of public consultations in September and October of 2003 in Sumatra and Kalimantan Islands of Indonesia. Public consultations were part of the environmental assessment of ADB PPTA Second Road Rehabilitation Project. These public consultations are scheduled to allow the public to meet the project team, discuss the study objectives and mitigation measures for major environmental impacts and provide opportunities to participate in the decision-making process.
Upon completion of the study, an Initial Environmental Examination report documenting the process will be submitted to the Government and ADB and will be available for public review.
Engconsult and Dainichi Consultant, Japan signed a contract with Asian Development Bank on May 9, 2003 for Second Road Rehabilitation Project in Indonesia.
The objective of the technical assistance project is to assist the Government in formulating a strategic road development/rehabilitation project consisting of: (i) rehabilitating high priority sections of the national road network in Kalimantan and Sumatra; (ii) implementing policies included in the Government's Action Plan for Road Traffic and Transport Policies. The project will promote economic development and contribute to reduce poverty in the selected provinces.
Japanese Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has invited Engconsult Limited to make a presentation on Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Program as a Potential CDM Project in Transport Sector. The presentation was part of an Workshop on the CDM/JI in the Transport Sector, which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Japan (MLIT) held on 27 and 28 March 2003 in Tokyo.
