Project Title: Environmental Technology Verification-Arsenic
Mitigation Project Duration: 2000/2003 CIDA Contribution: $4,162,800 Canadian partner: Ontario Centre for Environmental Technology Advancement Description: Arsenic contamination of groundwater supplies is a naturally occurring, widespread problem in Bangladesh. Millions of people either suffer from arsenic poisoning already or are at risk. The goal of the project is to address basic human needs in Bangladesh by providing safe drinking water at the point of use for people affected by arsenic poisoning. The main outcomes will include: a process for assessing and verifying arsenic mitigation technologies; certified viable arsenic mitigation technologies; and transfer of the process and procedures to an entity designated by the Government of Bangladesh. The main outputs will include: an internationally recognized criteria for examining arsenic mitigation technologies; a process for certification of arsenic mitigation technologies and confirmed technology viability through a comprehensive field verification program. |
