The Bangladesh Observer June 29, 2004 100 attacked with diseases in 9 unions Arsenic contamination found in 700 tubewells at Katiadi From Our Correspondent BHAIRAB, June 28:–The survey conducted in the water of 3000 tubewells by the Public Health Department and other voluntary organisations in the nine unions of Katiadi arsenic contamination beyond the limit was detected in 700-tubewell water. At least 100 people were attacked with arsenic related diseases in different areas of nine unions. The number of arsenic contaminated tubewells is high in Memordia. Chandpur and Banagram unions of the upazila. The Public Health Engineering Department sank only three deep tubewells against the demand of 100 tubewells to overcome the crisis.
